Southern FM succeeds in renewing broadcast license
SOUTHERN FM OBTAINS APPROVAL FOR LICENSE RENEWAL, EXTENDING AIR TIME COVERAGE FOR A FURTHER 5 YEARS
Southern FM has successfully obtained permission to have its license renewed in November this year. This process takes place every 5 years and requires acceptance from the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), which in context, acts as the governing body in the radio broadcast sector. This achievement is a major milestone for the radio station to continue serving the local community of south-east Melbourne.
Southern FM President Cameron Heyde, gives further comments on what was required. “This is a fairly thorough review of all aspects of the radio station, from how well we are serving the local community, to how well we are running the radio station in comparison to the ACMA’s expectations.”, he said. “It factors in the previous five years overall, and focuses more heavily on the past 12 months. We are thrilled to receive advice on the renewal taking place this year.”
License renewal is required periodically in order for radio stations to continue broadcasting.
This year in November marks the 30th year of Southern FM being on air full time.
