Talking music and dance at the Highett Music Bowl with Alli Harding on South of the River

Calling all musicians, singers, dancers, experts and newbies … get yourself along to the Highett Music Bowl, a new initiative that aims to bring the community together through music.

Monica Cashin and Highett Bowls Club secretary Margaret Dobell came into the Southern FM studio to talk with Allli Harding about this extraordinary initiative that is being developed as a community gathering space to improve public health by engaging people in music making.
Monica is the co-founder of the charity Music and the Brain Foundation, which champions the use of music in the prevention, treatment and management of brain related disorders.
This year, Monica and others have been establishing the Highett Music Bowl, which is based at the Highett Bowls Club.

A new community choir has already attracted 70 interested people, a monthly jazz jam has started, and the Victorian State Ballet will be performing ‘Cinderella’ in the space at the Highett Bowls Club on November 26.

Margaret, who is secretary at the club, told Alli that the new use of the club would also attract new members and players, a win-win for everybody.
