WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW – EPISODE 13 – ELVIS
On the first Friday of each month from 6-7 PM, Cindy Sullivan presents music and chat with a philosophical/political edge. Episode 13 of ‘What The World Needs Now’ was broadcast on Southern FM on Friday 5th August 2022. In this episode, Cindy discusses the idea that ‘what the world needs now’ is to listen to more Elvis songs.
Inspired by viewing the Baz Luhrmann film ‘Elvis’ and her visit to the Graceland exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery, Cindy plays some of her favourite Elvis songs (mostly from the 1950s) and discusses some background to these songs. You might also want to listen to this playlist ‘Elvis & The Originals’ (a collection of songs by the original artists, followed by the version made popular by Elvis).
“There have been a lot of tough guys. There have been pretenders. And there have been contenders. But there is only one King.” ~ Bruce Springsteen

Elvis’ passing was one of those moments in life when you remember exactly where you were and who you were with. I recall hearing the announcement over the school PA system and my friends and I, crying a river of tears. I found myself lost in thought, remembering the talent, the man that was Elvis. Thank you Cindy, for the trip down Memory Lane.
