Talking community support for refugees and returning bottles and cans on South of the River
Did you know you can now return eligible cans, cartons and bottles for 10 cents in Victoria’s new container deposit scheme? You can also choose to donate the money to a worthwhile community organisation.
The CDS Vic program began at the start of November and hundreds of thousands items have already been returned.
Alli was joined by Simon Gaites (pictured above, with Alli), who is co-leader of 3191 Beach Patrol, who explained how the scheme works and how much important it is to keeping our environment clean. Listen to the podcast to find out more about CDS and then visit www.CDSvic.org.au for more information.
Alli also welcomed David Williams and recent arrivals to Australia from El Salvador, Anna and Monica, to the show. David is part of the Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Pilot (CRISP), which supports newly arrived refugees in the community. Mother Anna and 19-year-old daughter Monica (pictured, above, with Alli) are quickly learning English and are looking forward to studying and working in their new life in Australia.
If you can want to know more about CRISP and how you can get involved, listen to the podcast and then visit https://refugeesponsorship.org.au/
David and the rest of the support group are looking for accommodation for Anna and Monica and would love to hear from anybody who might be able to help.
