The Wild Yabbies – Band Bio
The Wild Yabbies has been together as a band for about 2.5 years. The players come from diverse occupations and musical backgrounds but are united in a love of blues and classic rock. The Wild Yabbies band would suit an audience that grew up in the 50s, 60s and 70s who enjoy different styles of music, like to dance and have a fun evening!
Rod Perry on vocals and harmonica, really belts it out with a strong versatile voice and good blues harp, to give the band a very solid vocal presence and blues/rock style.
Tommo Calvert’s bass guitar lays down rock solid, melodic bass lines.
Harry Bryce’s exciting drumming, forges a solid floor with percussive textures. In conjunction with the bass, Harry and Tommo create a very solid rhythmic base to work from.
Joe Karlovsky’s keyboard textures are fresh and ambient, weaving all the band’s musical components into tight, melodic and exciting songs.
John Circosta’s sax and banjo brings enormous versatility to the band, allowing all styles of music to be played.
Lynne Collins’s flute adds an extra dimension not often heard, to the band’s sound.
David Alexander’s blues inspired lead guitar cuts through to provide the blues sound so often loved by the “baby boomers”.
Mark Copolov’s exciting rock and roll lead guitar playing nicely compliments David’s blues lead guitar work.
The Wild Yabbies plays a wide range of music, including songs from:
Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, The Doors, The Rolling Stones, Daddy Cool, Little Richard, BB King, Canned Heat, Dion and the Belmonts, Albert and Freddy King, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Louis Jordan, Sam and Dave, Johnny Winter, Canned Heat, Eddie Taylor, Fats Domino, Roy Head, and Delbert McClinton, amongst others.
Recent gigs include: The Bell Tavern in Belgrave, Eltham Town Centre, Eltham Jazz and Food Festival, the 2015 Minelab Wedderburn Gold Detector Jamboree, as well as a number of private functions.
