RADIO GA GA REMEMBERS PHIL SPECTOR’S BEST WORK
Phil Spector had a huge influence on the music we have been listening to over the years. The originator of the “Wall of Sound” production technique, Spector was a pioneer of the 60’s girl group sound and produced over 25 top 40 hits from 1960–1965. He did some of his best work through the late 60’s and early 70’s writing and producing songs for The Beatles, The Righteous Brothers and Ike and Tina Turner and then in the late 70’s, The Ramones. These days Spector is remembered as a troubled individual who was convicted of murdering Lana Clarkson after a typically nutty U.S court saga and spends his days behind bars but his contribution to the world of music cannot be denied and this Saturday we pay tribute to the best of the genius that is Phil Spector as we play tunes he wrote produced and even played on as well as a couple of the artists who embraced his techniques for their own music.
